Okay so all the talk about fan etiquette got me thinking about a story I heard recently about Joaquin as a kid.
A friend of mine worked on the disney project Captain Eo, starring Michael Jackson and Angelica Houston; directed by George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola.
We caught up over lockdown on email and we were chatting about music and he brought up the day Joaquin met Michael Jackson on the set.
Space Camp was filming next door and a number of the cast who were fans were invited over. They were told MJ was in his trailer. Things started getting out of hand when the older cast began violently shaking the trailer and they ended up being reprimanded by security. The only one who stood back and waited patiently was “little Leaf”, who had bought a cookery book as a gift for MJ.
Joaquin was respectful and it paid off - he got to meet Michael.
I think his attitude is a credit to his folks and the way he was raised. I know JP has since described himself as being terror as a kid lol, but he knew when to be respectful.
Anyway, that's it lol.

I believe in being respectful and giving celebrities their space because at the end of the day they're human, too, and maybe they had a bad day and aren't in the mood to deal with fans. Stalking is a big no-no for me. If I were ever lucky enough to see Joaquin on the streets some day , I'd limit contact to a wave and a smile. Partly out of respect for him and partly because I have to protect myself . Like I said, I know he can be lovely with the fans but there have been instances when he just wasn't in the mood to deal with it and blew them off. So I'd rather be safe than sorry. As I said before, I'd count myself lucky just for a brief encounter. No need to push my luck.
