I think I've read of this theory before and I'm not a fan.
The whole "it was in his head" story is a cop out in my opinion. It reminds me of the old TV show Dallas where the writers decided to make one whole season the entire dream of a character.

ps i remember before that the girl wasnt really his girlfriend. she was "in his head" thats what i read before etc.

Regarding the refrigerator scene, that doesn't hold any water because it was revealed that Joaquin totally improvised that. Along with a couple of other scenes.
