I guess that just shows some of the differences in male and female thinking, Admin. Thanks for the info, Sami. In The Godfather II it shows young Vito Corleone’s entrance into America via Ellis Island.
The Will Smith film Hitch also has a scene at Ellis Island but it concerns the family of his love interest in the film, played by Eva Mendes.

Hi Sami/Joy, Thanks for the info. I've actually been to the immigration museum on Ellis island. It was an interesting couple of hours and it showed the various procedures and hardships people went through when going through the immigration process in those days. Will be interesting to see how it's represented in Lowlife. Edited by user Tuesday, March 5, 2013 7:45:17 AM(UTC)

Thank you Joy, Admin. I want to visit this museum as well . I bet many ppl in the UK have relatives who went through it as well . Some of my ancestors emigrated to South America but none to the USA. I'm the first one. For me everything is new and fascinating . It's a new way of seeing the world but when I think about the ppl who left their countries before and were never able to go back I imagine the hardships of that. One way ticket : unknown destiny. They bet it all in one card. Ppl were tough before...

Hey Admin. You get around! Sami, it must be great sometimes to see the world as new and fascinating, but also daunting. Especially in past times I can see the need and desire for people who emigrated to a different country to want to stay with each other. Familiarity. Continuation of the old life. Security of sorts in unfamiliar surroundings and culture. You can understand how some neighbourhoods become populated: Italian, Polish, Jewish and so on.

I like to talk to people who feel like that too. Country boundaries are artificial . I was lucky because i went to a school where 40% of the students were international and i got to know ppl from literally every corner of the world . since we were all newbies we were all really open to each other and open to cultural differences. it was such a magic experience. The best school was the ppl I met there not the classes I took .. Makes u think ! Edited by user Tuesday, March 5, 2013 3:47:29 PM(UTC)

You and me both, Sami. I was wondering if any non-members have actually voted in this poll. Or is it only us, voting more than once? *ahem*

So far, there are only 9 votes cast - with my 2 votes that's a possible 6 that have come from active members. 3 possible non-members. (yes folks, I did maths at school ) We're still getting a lot of lurkers though. Hmm....obviously not interested in the poll.

I confess I thought about voting twice but I didn't do it, I swear ... the virtual world is very surreal.

This poll has had over 600 views and, yet, only 11 votes! Gotta love that apathy from Joaquin fans... he would be proud i'm sure!
A no one is looking forward to Inherent Vice! Probably because Joaquin is yet to be officially confirmed as Doc Sportello. |

You're doing the wrong kind of polls, Admin. Don't you know that we Joaquin fans are only interested in his love-life?

I look forward to The Immigrant . There was a documentary on Latino Americans this afternoon on PBS and Saturday there were demonstrations all over the USA to push for immigration reform and to fight against inhumane laws . I look forward to this movie to see how it fits into the immigration debate that is currently going on . Sami
