http://www.indiewire.com/article/nyff-13-james-gray-on-the-immigrant-film-versus-digital-and-his-brief-forays-into-acting?page=2

A Q and A Joaquin and James Gray did about the movie! I particularly like this part:

Phoenix on his research for the role:
"Rickets. I became obsessed with rickets, but it didn't really have a place in the film. I kept trying to get it in there, but it just wouldn't work. That's about all the research I did."

Typical Joaquin. They also describe him as remaining "amusingly tight-lipped" throughout the whole thing. Ah well, at least he showed up. The full interview's at the link if anyone finds it interesting.

NYFF 2013: THE IMMIGRANT Review

"The Immigrant provides an almost childish love story in a world that is undoubtedly adult. Bruno and Emile may be grown men with weapons, but their devotion to Eva doesn’t make their actions feel any less immature. Eva almost seems out of the equation because her life doesn’t feel tragic as much as it’s unfortunate. Fate isn’t against her; she’s just unlucky. Gray deserves credit for trying to craft an intimate story through his direction, but the script he co-wrote with Richard Menello seems as lost and empty as its heroine.

Thanks, Admin! Love the press conference-I always like hearing James Gray talk about his films. His conversations are always pretty insightful and intelligent, and it's great to hear about the research he does, and the development of the ideas. It's really interesting to hear about his choices with certain characters, the way he chooses to thematically represent things.

And I love the way he keeps getting Joaquin to talk-"What's the point?" That was hilarious. And Joaquin fidgeting with his sunglasses. Ha ha. Good press conference!

Hello Admin, Justme, Kitten Little Cutie Says Hello

I've only watched the short clip of the press conference. There's a lot of talking.....by James! Lol. Very interesting to hear him speak about the film and I'll no doubt watch the full version at some time soon.

I can't get over the fact that Joaquin wore a tie!

I like his hair like that.

Oui, c'est très bien! Mais pourquoi ne pas dire des Deux Amants ou L'Immigrant? 'We Own the Night' a été traduite en français....! *Shrugs.* *Pah! Je ne sais pas.* *Fume une Gauloise.*

Admin, I wanna ask you....

You know all these points we've accumulated with our posts? What are they for? Do we get a prize if we reach a certain number?

Hi Joy!

Good question! I'm not sure! Maybe they can be used as Tesco clubcard points?  I'll have a look into it...

Hi Joy,

I had a look at the points system for the forum and the points relate to the rank of user you are.

Currently the following ranks are available:

Newbie (0 posts)
Member (10 posts)
Advanced Member (30 posts)

I can add more if you like or change the existing ones? I'm open to suggestions if anyone wants to come up with any other ranks, maybe ranks that are more relevant to the world of Joaquin?!

Hi Admin,

I don't have a Tesco clubcard so I'm glad the points don't relate to that. Haha. It's not a very imaginative system though, is it? You could configure the points in such a way so that every 10 posts the status changes: it'll be like a lucky dip! Joaquin-related is a good idea, or you could use different adjectives. Cosmic member; super-dooper member; awesome member; superlative member; stratospheric member; member par excellence. Hehe. Keep it clean though...no double entendres on the word 'member'.

Woo Hoo! A trailer! I'm confused though as to when this film is opening. I thought it had been put back to next year now but the trailer says November.  Is it coming out in France first?
